Jamie Shannon

I had a large space in Toronto's Kensington Market that I had used for many years as a home/puppet shop. In 2009, I was moving to Montreal to work on the Spike Jonze production Higglety Pigglety Pop, so I decided to clear out my space and start a gallery. I approached Bonny Poon, a young, local curator, and she brought on Daniel Vila as a partner. They filled the space with performances, dinners by artists, talks, symposia and music. Jamie's Area was a great success that garnered a lot of press attention and served as a standout venue through pressing economic times.
