Potato Puppet Workshop

2.5 hours

This workshop began on Prince Edward Island, I was invited to teach workshops and make an installation at the Confederation Center for the Arts. The Day of my arrival I received 1000 lbs of potato's and proceeded to run this workshop many times for all different age groups ranging from children as young as three all the way to professional musical performers of the confederation center. In a mere 2 hours, participants made their potato puppets, learned to puppeteer them, created a video play, and brought the recorded experience home on DVD.

The building of the puppets is fast, easy, and effective. It begins by choosing a potato with a shape that "speaks to you" (before it literally speaks to you) and then using pins you can attach whatever you want to the potato: beaded eyes, pipe cleaner arms, felt hats, fun fur hair and paper clip glasses. Ultimately, it allows shy people to come out of their shell and make instinctual, honest and creative decisions.
